Be Honest...maybe not!

Does anyone remember the episode of Friends where the bank mistakenly deposits $500.00 in Phoebe's account? She's honest and tries to correct the issue, but they send her a letter apologizing and refund her another $500.00 plus give her a football phone. She ends up giving the cash to a homeless woman.

Anyway the reason I brought this up is my current struggle with Toys R Us. I'm thinking that it doesn't pay to be honest. They recently sent me duplicate items (of which I won't name because my kids read this.) I was only charged for my original order of 1 item. So, being an honest person, I called the company to tell them about the mistake. After being on hold a long time while they sorted it out, they thanked me for my honesty and said that UPS would contact me for a pick-up time. I then played phone tag with UPS and waited all day for them to pick it up...which they did at 7:00 pm. Well, today I get an e-mail saying that Toys R Us has credited my account for $25.00 for the returned item. Geez! Now, I basically stole the first toy I kept. So... do I try to explain the situation to another customer service rep that doesn't have a clue how to record this transaction in the system....or... do I charge Toys R Us $25.00 for pain and suffering and keep my toy for free? Who thought honesty could be so difficult!

  2. I think they are so used to people trying to rip them off they don't know what to do when someone is honest.
I personally would said the heck with it. You tried to do the right thing and they seem to be clueless.
By the way cute picture of your kids!

  3. I'd keep it, you did your part and you'll go through a lot more headache than it's worth. I'd go to a store and spend the $25 on something toys for tots or some other angel tree.
