Early in our marriage, as I was making a scrapbook page about Pioneer Day in Altamont (an annual tradition), my husband admonished me for the title. "It's Longhorn Days in Altamont... get it right". I always thought Pioneer Day was a statewide holiday and apparently I was wrong. I've never made that mistake again. Sooo...last weekend we enjoyed Longhorn Days in Altamont. We got into town late Thursday night and stayed until Saturday night. We really had a fun weekend. The kids stayed up too late every night and got up earlier than usual, so by Saturday night they were all a little cranky and easily offended (how much longer 'til school starts???!!!). Friday the kids helped Grandpa clean up his workshop and made a dog house for good 'ole Josie. Todd, his brother Brad and a few friends from his high school days got to spend the morning golfing.

Max is ready to get to work!

Cute cousin, Sunny!
Grandma taught Kiarra to crochet!
Josie's new house!
Friday night we started the First Annual Miller Family Olympics (Brad and Emily's idea). We started the olympics with a Wii Bowling Tournament. I was feeling good when the night was over...I was in third place! (That ended quickly on Saturday.)
Nice form, Brad!
Then on Saturday we rushed to the parade! The kids look forward to this parade every year. It's extra special because you get to see it twice. It goes to one end of Main Street, turns around and comes back. (And you get candy in both directions if the participants saved some for the return trip.)

After the parade, all the cousins get to ride back to Grandpa and Grandma's house in the Gator!
Saturday afternoon we headed to the mountains to finish the Miller Family Olympics. There were several more events, and a yummy dutch oven dinner. Todd ended up taking 1st place, which is great with me because I know who he'll take to spend his $25.00 gift card to Chili's.
Max got a chance for some one on one catch with Grandma.
No, this is not a contest to hang kids from the trees (although that's an idea for next year), but it is how you get lasso golf balls out of a pine tree.

Thanks Sue (Grandma) for putting up with the chaos, the mess and all the meal preparation. Also thanks Brad, Emily and Kiarra for all your work planning the olympics. Even with the scoring disputes and rigged spelling bee it was a lot of fun!
I'll admit I have no idea where Altamont is, but since they have Longhorn days I'm going to assume it's somewhere in Texas.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun weekend.
Oops, sorry. Nope, not Texas...Eastern Utah. You were only an hour away on your recent trip through Vernal.
