August was VERY busy. It all started at the end of July, when once again my friend, Liz, and I "volunteered" to be the float committee for the Miss Bear River Valley Pageant. Last year we dusted off the float and repaired some damage the best we could and got it on the road. You can't really tell from this photo, but the letters had lost their shimmer, flowers were faded and the green was thread bare. So this year as we pulled the 10 year old float out of storage, it was decided that it was time for an overall.....

We had two weeks. The first week we spent measuring and ordering supplies. Then the next week was spent sweating it out in a hot, dirty city garage getting it all together.

Husbands helped pull off the dusty old sheeting, kids helped to remove a ton of staples and we spent 12 hours one Saturday stapling until our hands were blistered.

Todd built the perfect 8' star back drop for us.
Two days before the parade, the gold sheeting showed up and thanks to the husbands we were able to get the stars covered and we were set to go. Here's the float in line and ready for the annual Wheat and Beet Days parade!

Best part of Wheat and Beet Days is the water fight with the fire department.

On the 18th, Kiarra participated in the 4-H fashion revue. She modeled the vest she made from her grandpa's old blazer. She also entered the "Decorate Your Duds" contest with this vest because of the flower embellishment she made for the vest. The modeling and interview process happened in the afternoon and we all came back that evening for the show and awards.

That evening Kiarra entered a table setting in the Table Setting Contest. The theme was nursery rhymes. Kiarra chose Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater.

Kiarra did VERY well that night. She won first place in her age group for her table setting. She won Top Interview for her age group and also she took first place for her age in the Decorate Your Duds Contest. Whew! Way to Go!

Kiarra and her incredible sewing instructor, Jan.
We hadn't taken time to just go hang out at the pool all summer. So we managed to squeeze in a couple of trips in August.

Sophie the Fearless spent a lot of time diving. Good thing she's become a good swimmer.

I think Kiarra spent more time reading than swimming.
August in Box Elder County means County Fair! The fair kicks of with large parade.

Sophie got to cheer with her dance studio in the parade

Todd and I once again drove the royalty in the parade. This time the rest of the kids were thrilled to ride along and throw out candy.

Trying to keep cool and wait & wait in the 95 + degree heat for the parade to start.

Still waiting in pure organized chaos.

Kiarra's sewing projects did "sew" well at the fair. Her vest and quilt will be going on to the State Fair.

Thanks Grandma Miller for the fabric for this fun quilt and thanks to our friend, Michelle, for her hours of help on the quilt. I personally can't stitch a straight seam and don't have the patience for quilting. Thanks a TON!!!!!!!!!
After the parade, I took the kids to do the rides at the fair. It's a crowded night, but the cheapest night to do rides.

Friday night we had fun at the rodeo. Grandma and Grandpa Miller joined us for the rodeo and it was nice to spend time with them this weekend. Saturday night we went back to the fair for Sophie to clog. She and Kache did a great job!

Whew! Did it! Summer 2011 in review. Now off to bed because I gotta be up in 4 hours to get kids to school. YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
