I'm still in shock that the summer is over...but everyone was happy to start the new school year today. I think it's the only day out of the whole year that I don't have to yell and yell to get kids moving.
Zac was the first one out the door at 7:00 to catch his bus. He's been anxious about his move out of elementary school. The idea of new classmates, more teachers and lockers had him pretty worried. After today he's feeling a lot better. He still wishes he knew more kids in his classes but I know Zac...he'll have new friends by the end of the week.

Kiarra was the next ready to go. She's off to a new school too. She'll be in the 8th grade at the middle school which is just 8th & 9th grade.

She's super excited this year because she won't be on the bus as much. Karissa will be giving her a ride most days. And who's Karissa you ask? Karissa's family lives on a ranch over an hour away from town. Kids from that area find families to stay with during the school week when they reach high school level. We met Karissa's family last spring and offered to have her stay with us this school year. She'll be going home on weekends and putting up with us Monday -Friday. Karissa is a junior and is pretty excited to be out of her tiny school and on to bigger things. My kids think it's pretty cool having another big "sister". They've been hanging on her since she moved in yesterday and hopefully don't wear her out too soon.

Max was all silliness this morning. He's been ready for Kindergarten for a long time.

For Sophie, it was all about style. She's got her outfits planned for the week. Input from me was NOT appreciated. Apparently you don't need mom in 2nd grade.

I went down to the highway with Sophie and Max so that I could get some pictures of that new Kindergartner getting on the bus. We also discussed the "do not cross" line. Having them wait for the bus by the highway makes me pretty nervous. Well, we waited and waited. Apparently my guess for the bus time was off. We missed the bus. Max was pretty mad, but I ran them to school and promised to call the bus driver. We're all set for tomorrow now that I know what time to have them down the road.
Wow, your kids are growing up way too fast!!!
